Shimla. The Himachal Pradesh government has left no stone unturned for the adaptation of innovation and modern technology in the horticulture and agriculture sectors. Under the leadership of Chief Minister Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu, the state government has been planning to use drone technology in agriculture and horticulture. Therefore, three drone stations will be established in Hamirpur, Mandi, and Kangra districts of the state.

According to a government spokesperson, the state is focusing on building a strong and skilled workforce for the future. A complete drone ecosystem is being developed, keeping in mind the growing importance of drones in sectors like agriculture and horticulture. The government is also planning to introduce drone taxi services during this financial year. These services will help deliver agricultural products to remote areas of the state.

Himachal Pradesh has been inspiring youth to learn new technologies. In the year 2024-25, 243 youth from government Industrial Training Institutes (ITIs) have received training related to drones. The state is also making progress in artificial intelligence (AI) and data science education: a new college for AI and data science is being set up at Rajiv Gandhi Government Engineering College, Nagrota Bagwan, in Kangra district.

With the initiative, the horticulture sector of the state will get a big boost. Drone technology helps a lot, such as with precise monitoring, real-time data collection, and cost-effectiveness. These activities increase productivity in an eco-friendly manner. The technology will help in detecting stress areas, optimizing water and fertilizer use, and helping in pest and disease management.
