New Delhi: Air pollution is a major issue for the entire world. Things are gradually deteriorating, so it is essential to control this problem with mutual understanding. South Asia is badly struggling with increasing pollution levels. However, IQAir, in its latest report, highlighted that India, to some extent, is able to improve its air quality compared to neighbouring Pakistan and Bangladesh, which were declared the two most polluted nations in the world.

Fine dust particles, known as PM2.5, are dangerous for human health. It is responsible for one death out of every nine across the world. Besides this, it is also linked to numerous diseases such as asthma, heart issues, lung infections, respiratory problems, cancer, and many more. The report made it clear that the situation is deteriorating in South Asia and some parts of Africa amid urban growth, the setting up of factories, and climate change.

Currently, Bangladesh and Pakistan are occupying second and third place, respectively. India is in the fifth spot, with PM2.5 levels dropping from 54.4 µg/m³ in 2023 to 50.6 µg/m³ now. Some countries, like Iceland, New Zealand, and Finland, have the cleanest air in the world. They got this success due to strong environmental laws and awareness among people towards greenery.

As per the IQAir report, the world has to come on one platform to curb air pollution because it is a global issue, hurting everyone. South Asian countries need to make concrete environmental laws and spread greenery everywhere because cleaner air means a healthy atmosphere and a bright future for all.
