New Delhi: The Delhi Pollution Control Committee (DPCC) has sent its messages to all the Indian Institutes of Technology (IITs) and the India Meteorological Department (IMD), seeking effective ideas to overcome severe air pollution in the national capital. In a letter dated May 9, the DPCC shared 11 key reasons behind the poor quality of the city.

DPCC marked several sources that are responsible for increasing air pollution: vehicle emissions, industrial smoke, burning of crop waste and wood, dust from roads, and construction work. The committee seeks detailed information, clear concept notes of up to 5000 words, and a digital presentation as well for the pollution solution in Delhi within 15 days.

“These ideas will be passed on to the Delhi government, which may adopt some of them,” a DPCC official said. The letter also mentioned that the best proposals might get rewards or support from the government. The air quality of Delhi sometimes reaches the ‘poor’ category; the city occupies one of the top positions in the world in poor air quality. The national capital's Air Quality Index (AQI) reached 494 on November 18, 2023.

This initiative by the DPCC is expected to help in dipping Delhi’s pollution levels. The poor air quality has created a lot of issues in the city, leading to many diseases such as respiratory, heart, diabetes, and so on. Children and senior citizens are more vulnerable to coping with the dangerous pollution levels. The help of science and technology is likely to improve the air quality of Delhi, which will be a sigh of relief for Delhiites.
