Patna: Khirni, the forgotten "King of Fruits" in ancient times—its scientific name is Manilkara hexandra—is now gradually making a comeback, known for its sweet taste, medicinal values, and ecological benefits. It used to be called "Rajphal" or "Rajdan" in ancient Ayurveda texts, Khirni. It remained a part of Indian tradition for centuries. The fruit was popular among people from all walks of life.

 

Found mainly in India and Southeast Asia, the Khirni tree is a medium-sized evergreen tree that thrives in dry, tropical, and subtropical climates. It grows well even in arid regions, showing nature’s ability to survive tough conditions. The tree produces small, round, yellowish fruits that are not just tasty but also packed with nutrition.
