New Delhi: Delhi Environment Minister Manjinder Singh Sirsa on Thursday made it clear that the government has decided to invite experts to design pollution-controlling devices that can be installed on the top of moving buses and trucks in the national capital.  Science and technology can play a big role in mitigating pollution levels from the city. “We need innovative ideas that can be installed on top of vehicles to clean the air as the vehicles move around the city,’ Sirsa said.

A team of scientists will guide those who bring ideas. The experts will judge the concepts and then decide how the device can work, its cost, and its power consumption. The government will support and fund those who bring the best solutions; public tenders can also be issued for this work.

“This is not just another scheme,” said the minister. “We want to reduce pollution and boost industrial activity at the same time. These are the clear goals set by our Chief Minister, Rekha Gupta.” Sirsa also promised to cut through red tape so that inventors and startups can bring their ideas to life more easily. “Indians are naturally innovative, but government rules often hold them back,” he said.

A live demonstration of new cleaning machines took place outside the Delhi Secretariat. These included electric road sweepers, machines that suck up litter, and high-pressure water sprayers—all are running through lithium-ion batteries.

The minister witnessed the anti-smog guns and water sprinklers being used across the city, saying that Delhi pollution will be driven down with the help of “technology, speed, and seriousness.
