New Delhi: Delhi Chief Minister Rekha Gupta announced on Tuesday that the Delhi cabinet has approved a major plan to control dust and keep the city cleaner. The Public Works Department (PWD) will soon get advanced cleaning machines to help reduce pollution on roads across Delhi.

Under this new plan, the government will buy and use the following equipment: 250 water sprinklers with anti-smog guns. 70 Mechanical Road Sweeping (MRS) machines, each combined with 3 water sprinklers and anti-smog guns. 18 dump vehicles. 18 water tankers.

These machines will be used on roads maintained by the PWD and are expected to be working before winter starts. The Environment Department will give funds for this project under the “Pollution Control and Emergency Measures” scheme. The goal is to improve air quality in Delhi by reducing road dust, especially during the winter when pollution levels are high.

This initiative is likely to make the air quality of the national capital better in winter. The city often turns into a gas chamber from November to February. Currently dust pollution has created a big issue, creating a lot of health problems; children and senior citizens are on the receiving end. Floating small particles are dangerous for respiratory and heart diseases. Type 2 diabetes is increasing due to the excess of air pollution in Delhi NCR.
