Amritsar: Municipal Corporation (MC) Commissioner Gulpreet Singh Aulakh has been personally inspecting Amritsar’s key roads with other officials. During his visit, he found a lot of loopholes so that he gave an instruction to the Horticulture Department to remove weeds and overgrown grass from the sides and middle of GT Road, especially between the Golden Gate and Taran Wala Pul. The department was told to clear debris and try to keep the roads clean.

As part of this effort, the commissioner recently started his inspection from the Golden Gate on GT Road. He checked various areas, including Taran Wala Pul, 100 Feet Road, Chheharta Road, Ram Talai, Burj Phula Singh, Shera Wala Gate, Man Singh Gate, the bus stand, Mauran Wala Chowk, and Ram Bagh.

He also addressed the issue of illegal occupation and encroachments. The estate officer was instructed to take quick action against sand-laden trolleys on Chheharta Road, unauthorized stalls outside Shera Wala Gate shops, and illegal carts near the Suraj Chanda cinema.

To help with road upkeep, the Municipal Corporation has set up three dedicated road maintenance teams, called “road gangs,” with a total of 44 workers. These teams follow a rotational schedule and are being provided with the necessary tools and machinery to carry out their duties effectively.

The commissioner went on to say that this initiative is expected to keep the roads of the city neat and clean. The horticulture department will remove all the unattended waste from the roads, and this effort will keep the city green, clean and pleasant for everyone.
