A grow bag is a strong and breathable container made of fabric, jute, or thick plastic, filled with soil and compost to grow plants. The best part is that you can even grow high-value fruits like avocados in these bags. Since avocados sell for a good price in the market, they can also become a source of income.
Farming avocados in grow bags: The first step is to select a suitable bag. It is better to use a 30–50 liter grow bag with proper drainage holes, as avocado trees grow slowly but become large over time. Prepare a mix of 40% garden soil, 30% cow dung compost, and 30% sand to maintain proper drainage and provide nutrients. Though you can grow from a seed, using a grafted plant from a nursery is better, as it bears fruit faster. Avocado plants need 4–6 hours of sunlight daily. Water daily in summer and less in winter. Use mulch to retain moisture and apply organic pesticides regularly.
Apart from avocados, other fruits can also be grown in grow bags, such as strawberries, which are easy to grow and highly profitable. Blueberries are especially popular among health-conscious people. Dragon fruit is attractive and nutritious. Figs (anjeer) are used in several medicinal treatments, and their sales have increased in recent years due to their health benefits.
