Mukesh Ambani turns mango tycoon with 600-acre orchard

Jamnagar: Reliance Industries Ltd. Chairman Mukesh Ambani, like other sectors, is also taking a keen interest in mangoes. He is the owner of Asia’s largest mango orchard in Jamnagar, Gujarat, which is spread over 600 acres, and the name of the orchard is Dhirubhai Ambani Lakhibagh Aamrai. The amazing thing is that the orchard has more than 1.5 lakh mango trees, growing over 200 varieties of mangoes, including several premium types, such as Hapus (Alphonso) and Kesar.

The orchard was originally planted in 1998, aiming to curb pollution levels increasing due to the nearby Jamnagar refinery. Gradually the orchard started growing, and currently, it has been producing a mammoth 10,000 tonnes of mangoes every year.

These mangoes are exported to the US, Europe, and Gulf countries, where they are highly valued for their quality, taste, and aroma. The orchard uses modern farming methods such as drip irrigation, soil health monitoring, and organic practices to ensure high standards in both yield and quality.

Nita Ambani personally looks after the orchard, which now supports over 500 jobs. In addition to running the orchard, Reliance also trains local farmers in modern farming techniques. Every year, the company distributes around 1 lakh saplings free of cost to nearby farmers.

Therefore, this mango orchard has been producing mangoes in huge numbers. Besides this, its contribution is immense in spreading greenery and keeping the pollution levels under control. The mango production has boosted the ties between India and global markets, especially the US and Europe. It is difficult to surpass Mukesh Ambani in industry, but now he has become the largest mango trader and even exporter in the country with the help of his green initiative; it is surprising.
