New Delhi: Spring is knocking on the door all over the country. During this season, several streets, roads, and highways turn into something like a newlywed bride due to the bloom of gold yellow flowers. These remarkable flowers belong to the Cassia tree, also known as Cassia fistula. Long-hanging flower clusters around the wall and roadsides have made the entire atmosphere calm and eye-catching.

Cassia fistula is a medium-sized tree that grows 10 to 20 meters tall. It belongs to the Fabaceae family and is known for its bright yellow flowers that bloom during the dry season, often when the tree has no leaves. This creates a striking contrast, making the flowers even more eye-catching.

In India, the tree is called "Amaltas" in Hindi and "Kanikonna" in Malayalam. It holds a special place in Kerala, where it is the state flower. During the Vishu festival, Kanikonna flowers are part of the Vishukkani, a traditional arrangement viewed at sunrise to bring good luck and prosperity.

The cassia tree is replete with medicinal value; it is used in ayurvedic medicine. The pulp inside the shell is a natural laxative, and other parts of the tree are being used to treat fever, skin problems, and digestive issues. However, its advantages have not been scientifically proven, so use it in limited amounts; otherwise, it may be dangerous for your health.

Cassia trees scatter beauty all around; their ecological benefits are immense. The trees are a gem of spring, increase greenery, and help in dipping pollution levels. The attractive bloom of yellow flowers entices everyone; even a passerby stops for a moment to enjoy the natural beauty of the Cassia trees flowers.
