CSIR-NBRI develops FloriGuard spray to keep flowers fresh and fragrant

FloriGuard works by forming a protective antibacterial layer on the flowers. This layer prevents wilting, discoloration, and bad odor while keeping the natural beauty, color, and shine of the flowers intact. It is useful in homes, temples, hotels, and event decorations.

FloriGuard is harmless, more reasonable, and more effective in comparison to other chemical sprays that are available in the market. It is capable of extending the flowers' lives by up to 33%, even in high temperatures, keeping the flowers soft, fresh, and odorous for a long period of time. FloriGuard is expected to help flower farmers and sellers to keep their product safe, reduce waste, and boost incomes.

According to CSIR-NBRI Director Dr. Ajit Kumar Shasany, such inventions make daily life more eco-friendly and beautiful. The spray is also expected to boost India’s position in the global flower market by helping flowers stay fresh during long-distance transport.

FloriGuard is likely to be available in stores as well as online in the coming three months. It will be launched by a private company partnership. All the positive results are expected, which may change the concept of flower farming in India, and it could be a game changer for the floriculture industry across the country.
