Itanagar: Arunachal Pradesh on Thursday launched the Viksit Krishi Sankalp Abhiyan (VKSA). It is a massive programme to make agriculture and horticulture popular among the people across the state, aiming to boost farmers’ income and make them empowered. Agriculture Minister Gabriel D. Wangsu flagged off many ‘krishi raths’—mobile units that will touch every village to provide modern farming methods to the farmers.

The raths are expected to reach over 325,000 farmers in 1,380 villages in a fortnight. Several departments, such as Agriculture, Horticulture, Fisheries, Animal Husbandry, and Dairy Development, are working together with the goal to make the campaign a success.

Minister Wangsu described VKSA as a “people’s movement” and emphasized the importance of teamwork between scientists, government officers, and farmers. He said the state had already invested Rs 2,000 crore under the Atmanirbhar scheme, benefitting over 52,000 people and groups.

Arunachal Pradesh has also certified over 20,500 hectares of land for organic farming and launched 46 FPOs. The state government has unveiled its new agriculture and horticulture policies for 2025–2035 to ensure long-term, sustainable growth.

The VKSA had gotten underway all over the state. Several events took place at Changlang, West Kameng, Lower Subansiri, Tawang, Upper Subansiri, Lohit, Namsai, Tirap, East and Lower Siang, Dibang Valley, and Kra Daadi. In such kinds of events, several local leaders, scientists, experts, and a huge number of farmers participated keenly.

The purpose of sending krishi raths everywhere is to provide training, seeds, soil health cards, and information on key schemes of government so that farmers can boost their productivity and adopt modern farming techniques and climate-resilient methods. The campaign will be concluded on June 12.
