NDMC Vice Chairman Kuljeet Singh Chahal shared that the track will include a sprinkler system to control dust and keep the surface in good condition. “Gravel tracks are not only safer but also cost-effective and require less maintenance than synthetic ones,” he said.
The design of this track is inspired by the jogging track at Siri Fort Sports Complex and is specially created for running and walking. Construction began recently and is expected to be completed by July 10, 2025.
If this project becomes successful, then NDMC will build similar gravel tracks in other big parks of the national capital. Synthetic tracks are being widely used, but they demand a lot of maintenance. Meanwhile, gravel offers a more sustainable option for long-term use.
The track’s edges will get the support of kerb stones, and to make the walking area better, additional stonework is being laid down. These initiatives by the NDMC will give morning walkers the opportunity to enjoy and get a healthy lifestyle. Gravel surface is healthy for knees and bones.
