Budgam: The Horticulture Department of Kashmir has decided to help farmers of the Budgam district, who were badly affected due to the recent hailstorm that damaged a huge number of orchards. In a quick and positive move, Joint Director of Horticulture A. H. Bhat, along with top brass of the department, went on to witness the numerous affected areas to estimate how much damage occurred. During the visit, Bhat talked with farmers, saw damaged trees, and assured them about help.

“Our main goal is to help farmers recover quickly and reduce long-term losses,” Bhat said, reassuring orchardists that the department stands with them during this tough time. During his visit, he also stopped at the Fruit Plant Nursery in Gopalpora. He reviewed the ongoing work and asked officials to prepare a Detailed Project Report (DPR) under a special scheme to upgrade and expand the nursery.

The department urged farmers it is better for them to use fungicides recommended by SKUAST and keep the orchard hygienic. The department has been planning to hold an awareness camp and practical demonstration in the fields with the aim to increase the quality of fruit plants in the region. The department is adamant about improving infrastructure, bringing better fruit varieties, and trying to improve the nursery quality as per the local climate.

The Horticulture Department assured farmers to remain in touch with local officials and take part in the forthcoming awareness sessions to get knowledge about orchard care, its upkeep, and disease control.
