Amsterdam: The Netherlands is known globally as the hub of flowers, especially tulips. However, Aalsmeer in the country is the busiest flower market globally. Millions of flowers are brought here every day and sold on the same day. The biggest flower auction center is set up on one million square meters. Visitors can see any type of flower that is available on this planet.

Flowers from all over the world come here from Kenya, Ethiopia, Colombia, Ecuador, Israel, and many parts of Europe; they bring most of the flowers. As per an expectation on a regular day, around 43 million flowers are sold, and the number goes up to 15 percent on occasions like Valentine’s Day, Mother’s Day, and so on.

The auction uses a special system called a Dutch auction. The price of the flowers starts high and then goes down. Buyers must act fast—they only have a few seconds to make a bid before the flowers are sold to someone else. Each flower goes through about 30 quality checks before being sold. After inspection, the flowers are graded as A1, A2, or B, depending on their quality.

Here auction works take place at a fast pace. It is an international hub, so fresh flowers come in a huge quantity from the growers, and people directly purchase them. The gigantic work finishes in some hours. The same process is repeated every day; it is not wrong to call it the heart of the global floral industry.
