UP farmer sparks dragon fruit farming revolution

Sonbhadra: Babulal Maurya, a resident of Sonbhadra district in Uttar Pradesh, has earned big name and fame by adopting modern farming techniques. He ventured into horticulture sector just a few years ago. He heard the name "dragon fruit" three years ago and began its cultivation in 2023, which changed his destiny.
 
 
Babulal got technical knowledge regarding dragon fruit cultivation from the Horticulture Department. He procured plants from several countries—Thailand, China, and Malaysia. He said that ‘dragon fruit plants bear fruit in one and a half years. Currently, his fruits are being sold in big cities. Traders come to his farm directly and purchase the fruit, increasing his income significantly.

The demand for this fruit is high in domestic and global markets because it is packed with health benefits, helping in the treatment of numerous diseases. Low investment is required in dragon fruit farming. Babulal’s success encourages others to begin dragon fruit farming.
