India has steadily increased its exports; the country’s presence in the international global banana market is growing at a fast pace. In 2013, India’s share of the global market was just 0.21%. The progress continued, and by 2023, that share touched 1.74%. India exported bananas worth $300 million during the fiscal year 2023-24.
The Agricultural and Processed Food Products Export Development Authority (APEDA) plays a key role in the boost of banana exports, promoting exports through sea routes. The next target of APEDA is the Russian market for banana exports. Indian bananas are available in Iran, Iraq, the UAE, Oman, Uzbekistan, Saudi Arabia, Nepal, Qatar, Kuwait, and Afghanistan.
The country has set a goal of $1 billion in banana exports, strengthening its position in overseas trade. With the concrete strategy and government support, India’s banana exports are expected to boost further.
