Union Minister urges Delhi farmers to adopt modern farming methods

New Delhi: Union Agriculture Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan has urged the farmers of Delhi to take full advantage of modern technological advances in farming. During his visit to Tigipur village near Delhi on Wednesday at the close of the 15-day Vikasit Krishi Sankalp Abhiyan, Mr Chauhan interacted with farmers directly in a Kisan Chaupal; the main focus of which was on modern farming techniques such as setting up polyhouses, drip irrigation, and quality seeds. He appreciated the farmers for their innovative efforts and said such practices would bring a revolution in Indian agriculture.
A live demonstration of drone spraying took place to show how technology can reduce costs. Mr Chouhan also urged farmers to use Soil Health Cards and grow crops that protect soil fertility. He emphasized the importance of crop diversification and shifting towards market-driven farming.
Talking about horticulture, the minister asked farmers of the national capital to take advantage of urban markets. He highlighted that there was a lot of opportunity in the farming of fruits, vegetables, and flowers.
