LG for developing horticulture in J&K

Jammu & Kashmir (J&K) Lieutenant Governor (LG) Mr Manoj Sinha has emphasised the need for developing horticulture in the Union Territory (UT) He was speaking at the closing ceremony of the Vikasit Krishi Sankalp Abhiyan at Khudwani in Kulgam District on 15 June, The LG said that the progress of horticulture sector is essential for the development of the UT as a huge population is dependent on this sector.

The event marked the conclusion of the Vikasit Krishi Sankalp Abhiyan, a nationwide initiative aimed at transforming India’s agricultural and horticulture sector. Responding sympathetically to a long-pending demand from farmers for including horticulture under the Crop Insurance Scheme, Mr Sinha said that the decision in this regard lay with the government. He urged the Agriculture Minister to look into the matter on priority. Mr Sinha called the mission a “transformative step toward building a resilient, modern, and prosperous agricultural and horticulture landscape in Jammu & Kashmir. He said that under the PM-Kisan Samman Nidhi Scheme, 13 lakh farmer families in J&K were directly receiving Rs 3,674 crore in their bank accounts.
