New Delhi: Chief Minister Rekha Gupta, on Saturday, made it clear that the government is set to take some concrete steps to overcome the national capital’s air pollution problem. Speaking at the Aironomics-2025 summit, she highlighted that the pollution issue continues every month. It is not a matter of winter; therefore, a long-term policy is required for making the city’s air quality better.
The government has introduced the Delhi Electric Vehicle Interconnector (DEVi) scheme with the aim of setting up 48,000 EV charging stations in Delhi by 2026. The promotion of electric vehicles is also in the pipeline of the government through subsidy plans. Other measures like water sprinkling and road sweeping with the help of machines, along with the prevention of garbage burning, are also in the government’s scheme.
CM Gupta also stressed public participation, asking Resident Welfare Associations (RWAs) to help manage construction waste and promising to provide heaters to security guards to stop firewood burning in winter. She noted that Rs 300 crore has been set aside in this year’s budget for pollution control.
The Council for International Economic Understanding (CIEU) organized Aironomics-2025, bringing policymakers, experts, and global bodies like WHO and the World Bank to one platform. Several key issues were raised during the event, such as carbon markets, green bonds, air quality tech, and community-led efforts. The CIEU predicted that Rs 35,000 crore is likely to be invested for job growth in the biogas and EV sectors.
The event ended with a high note that national action is the need of the hour for the promotion of clean and green energy because healthy air quality is essential for the public health and rapid economic growth of the country as well.
