Dodoma: The Tanzania Horticultural Association (TAHA) lauded the central government for giving priority to the horticulture sector in the 2025-26 agricultural budget. The budget made it clear that horticulture is to play a vital role in increasing foreign earnings along with strengthening the economy of the country as well. At present Tanzania’s horticulture sector is growing at a rapid pace, contributing to the national economy and food security and generating employment opportunities, and so on.

TAHA’s CEO, Dr. Jacqueline Mkindi, welcomed the government’s move and confirmed the association’s full support in helping the country reach its agricultural goals. “TAHA is committed to building shared facilities that help farmers’ access markets, which is part of our common goal to grow the horticultural sector,” she said.

Agriculture Minister Hussein Bashe told Parliament that horticulture is on the top priority list in the government’s schemes. He revealed ten strategic goals, such as boosting the yield of crops and horticultural productivity and reducing post-harvest losses from up to 40% to just 5% by 2030.

The minister also announced a partnership with TAHA to run the Nundu horticultural packing and storage facility in the Njombe Region, which will boost the rural economy.
