Kashmir: Peach farming has been steadily growing in the hilly regions of Jammu & Kashmir, Himachal Pradesh, and Uttarakhand. The cold winters and dry summers of these regions are perfect for peach cultivation. Currently, its farming is also taking place in the subtropical areas of Punjab, Haryana, and Uttar Pradesh, where the weather remains cool. Sandy loam soil is ideal for its farming; a good drainage system is the basic requirement for getting a good harvest.

Peach plants are usually propagated using seeds for rootstocks, with grafting used to grow specific varieties. January is the ideal month for the plantation of peaches in India. It needs regular pruning to shape the tree and make the fruit quality better.

Irrigation is essential during flowering and when the tree starts bearing fruit. Drip irrigation is preferable for saving water and better growth of the tree. Crops need to be protected from pests and diseases with the use of organic sprays. A healthy peach tree produces fruit for about 20 to 30 years, making it a money-fetching fruit for horticultural farmers.
