Hyderabad: Sri Konda Laxman Telangana Horticultural University (SKLTHU) has been focusing on the use of technologies to make horticulture education more scientific. Therefore, stress is given to using information technology (IT), information and communication technology (ICT), remote sensing, and geographic information systems (GIS) in the horticulture sector. Vice Chancellor Dr. Danda Raji Reddy said this at a student workshop on free and open-source software in Rajendranagar.
National Coordinator of the FOSSEE GIS project at IIT Bombay, Dr. Mohamed Kasim Khan, delivered the keynote address. In his address he discussed student internships, faculty training, and academic-industry partnerships, emphasizing the use of open-source software in horticultural research and resource mapping.
University Consultant Dr. Veeranjaneyulu highlighted the significance of ICT in education and how it increases the job prospects for horticulture students. Dr. P. Prasanth, Associate Dean at the Rajendranagar campus, explained that students should be trained with the latest technologies.
Dr. Khan on this occasion said that SKLTHU has been recognized under the ‘Aspiring University’ category in the National Geospatial Awards; scheduled to take place on July 17. The university will also be a knowledge partner in the upcoming National Geospatial Horticulture Hackathon.
