Bilaspur: Former school teacher named Meena Chandel, from Himachal Pradesh’s Bilaspur district, has totally changed her life through innovative thinking and determination. Currently, she has been running a flourishing floriculture business with her husband, earning about Rs 70 lakhs annually. Meena inspires other local women to venture into the floriculture sector.

The couple are doing flower farming on 22 bighas of land; advanced greenhouse farming is being done on 11,000 square feet. Currently, they are growing different varieties of flowers, such as lisianthus, gypsophila, gerbera, roses, dianthus, limonium, and various kinds of carnations.

The plantation process starts in June-July to meet the enormous demand during the winter wedding season. They are selling their flowers in Delhi’s major markets and getting a huge amount of profit.

However, floral farming in Bilaspur is full of challenges due to the hot summer climate, and greenhouse conditions need pest control. The couple are taking advice from the agricultural experts regarding the use of effective and eco-friendly sprays.

They are now the role model for many local farmers, proving that vision and thoughtful planning can bring big success in life.
