This initiative was possible due to the joint effort of the Agricultural and Processed Food Products Export Development Authority (APEDA) and the Punjab government. This development is a major achievement of Indian horticulture and gives chances to local farmers to reach international markets.
The export became a reality due to the help from the Department of Horticulture, the Lulu Group, and farmer Prabhat Singh from Sujanpur, who supplied the high-quality litchis. The export is likely to boost India’s image in the international horticulture market and fetch more income for farmers.
As per the National Horticulture Board, Punjab yielded 71,490 metric tonnes of litchis in 2023–24, accounting12.39% of the total litchi production of the country. India exported 639.53 metric tonnes of litchis during the same period. It is a milestone that shows India’s strength in agri-exports.
