The world leadership knows how hazardous this problem is. The United Nations always tries to highlight plastic pollution through World Environment Day themes like “Beating Plastic Pollution” (2018), “Ridding the Environment of Plastic” (2023), and “Combating Plastic Pollution” (2024).
Plastic waste is thrown here and there, which pollutes land, rivers, and oceans. It means discarded bags, bottles, and other materials are seriously affecting animals, ecosystems, and human health. The big question is how to stop its use.
Plastic production has been proving dangerous for the planet, needing huge amounts of energy in its production, which is responsible for climate change. As per an estimate in 2020, plastic-making caused over 3% of global greenhouse gas emissions. If the current speed of plastic output continues, then it could pollute almost 615 coal power plants by 2040.
Reducing plastic use is the sole solution to curb this issue, especially single-use items. The recycling system will have to improve, and for this we need much better, biodegradable alternatives. Strict action and its implementation are the demand of the time. Plastic pollution can be controlled through strong determination; then we can protect the earth for upcoming generations.
