Several courageous women of Kutch gifted this sapling to Modi, who had shown bravery during the Indo–Paki war in 1971. PM Modi himself ploughed the soil for the plantation of the sapling and then watered it — connecting the act of tree planting with national pride and resilience.
World Environment Day remains a busy schedule for Modi as he planted another seedling at Bhagwan Mahavir Vanasthali Park, launching the ‘Ek Ped Maa Ke Naam’ campaign. It is a major effort to stop deforestation of the Aravalli mountain range, which runs from Delhi to Gujarat. The goal of the initiative is to revive the ecosystem by making the water system better and overcoming the dust storms to prevent the spread of the Thar Desert.
Modi highlighted the importance of modern planting techniques, especially in urban areas, and announced that all plantation activities will be geo-tagged and tracked on the Meri LiFE portal to ensure accountability and progress.
With these efforts, India has proved to the world how serious the nation is regarding the protection of the environment, reinforcing its leadership in spreading greenery and saving the environment, turning symbolic acts into powerful movements. It must be a lesson for world leadership.
