Over 500 farmers from the state participated in this event. The event got underway with a farm visit on the ICAR-IIHR campus, where farmers saw a number of plant varieties developed scientifically. This was followed by an introduction to the VKSA programme.
VKSA is a joint venture of the Indian Council of Agricultural Research (ICAR) and the Department of Agriculture and Farmers Welfare. The goal of the initiative is to address all the farming challenges, such as plant diseases, poor soil quality, and rising costs. The event encouraged close association between scientists and farmers to develop disease-resistant crops that can be cultivated in local climates easily.
The Karnataka government has left no stone unturned to make the agriculture and horticulture sectors more potent. Currently, a team of 70 experts, including scientists and agriculture officials, has been interacting with farmers on a regular basis and getting their feedback, after which they educate them about improved farming practices.
During the launch event MPs C N Manjunath, K Sudhakar, MLA S R Vishwanath, senior ICAR officials, experts, and others were also present.
