Prices of numerous flowers like mogra, rose, and galgota have witnessed a rise of 10% to 30%. Currently, roses are being sold at Rs 200 per kilogram, white chrysanthemums at Rs 250 per kilogram, and galgota at Rs 200 per kilogram.
Kanubhai Mali, a well-known flower grower and trader from Amreli, said, “People buy flowers daily for temple offerings during Shravan, home worship, and religious celebrations. Guru Purnima involves offering garlands to gurus, and Janmashtami sees heavy use of flowers for temple decorations and Rasotsav events.”
The demand for roses and mogra garlands remains high because people give them to each other as gifts, and they are being used in religious decoration as well. As per the traders, prices are also high in key markets such as Mahuva and Bhavnagar.
The festival season is a boon for farmers. Their earnings have gone up due to the extra demand for flowers, and buyers have to loosen their wallets extra. Several key festivals are in the pipeline; prices are expected to boost further, making this season more profitable for floral growers.
