Bengaluru: The Horticulture Department of Bengaluru has decided to start walking tours in Cubbon Park and Lalbagh to make people aware of the importance of the trees in these two parks. A trial walk was conducted in Cubbon Park on July 14; department officials and naturalists took part enthusiastically.

The walk is dubbed as ‘Cubbon Walks’ and ‘Lalbagh Walks’, and there will be 20 people in each group. Cubbon Walks is set to get underway in about two weeks, while Lalbagh Walks is expected to start after the Independence Day flower show.

Visitors see thousands of trees in these parks, but most of them don’t have the knowledge of their scientific, cultural, or historical significance. These parks are filled with a variety of insects and animals. Therefore, trained naturalists will guide the people during the walk. They will share facts about the flora and fauna of the parks with visitors through microphones.

Regular visitors welcomed the move. Shruthi R.G., an engineer, said, “An expert guide would help me understand things better. I won’t mind paying for such a unique experience.”

People will have to book their slot online. In the beginning, walks will be held only on weekends, and the price of tickets has not been decided yet.
