Chennai: A young engineer from Chennai named Ravi has made an exclusive machine called the ‘Farm Gate Harvesting Machine’. It will help in the reduction of export losses and will make fruit farmers work easier. The machine is capable of washing, drying, and grading over 20 varieties of fruits like mango, guava, litchi, orange, apple, sapota and so on in an hour.

The machine is capable of categorising fruits by weight and arranging them for packaging and export. The machine can be taken to the field with the help of a tractor and can process up to 3 quintals of fruit in one hour. This method saves time and cost.

After finishing his engineering course, Ravi talked to a huge number of farmers in the four South Indian states along with a number of exporters and traders. He did a lot of research work and came to the conclusion that several farmers have to suffer a 21% loss due to inadequate fruit processing and grading.

He said that transporting fruits to factories is a big problem because they often get spoiled or rejected for not meeting export standards. His machine solves these issues.

The machine is set to be assembled in Uttar Pradesh for the benefit of local farmers. Discussion is in progress with the National Research Centre in Lucknow about its manufacturing. Numerous farmers are using the machine, and they are happy with its function and results.
