New Delhi: India has made rapid progress in the horticulture sector in recent years. Therefore, exports of fruits have also boosted. Indian fruits can be seen in big supermarkets worldwide. A new study by the Indian Council for Research on International Economic Relations (ICRIER) in collaboration with the Agricultural and Processed Food Products Export Development Authority (APEDA) outlines a strategic roadmap. Titled “Strategies to Boost India’s Agri-Exports, “the report aims to boost agricultural exports to USD 100 billion by 2030.

India is the world’s largest producer of bananas and mangoes and occupies the second position in potatoes. India currently just manages to export less than 1% of these high-potential horticultural commodities. Experts believe that the development of export clusters can play a big part in increasing overseas export of fruits.

India imported fruits and vegetables worth USD 2.7 billion while exporting only USD 2 billion in the fiscal year 2023–24. This trade imbalance exists despite India’s natural advantage in horticulture. The shift towards horticulture will boost farmers’ income, strengthening India’s presence in the international food supply chain.
