Patna: On account of the increase of temperatures and pollution levels, the expansion of green zones has been planned in rural and urban regions of Patna. This proposal was recently shared by two senior officials from the Environmental Information, Awareness, Capacity Building and Livelihood Programme (EIACP) at the Asian Development Research Institute (ADRI) in Patna on the occasion of Van Mahotsav (Forest Festival).

The officials explained that Patna, which is now becoming a "heat-stressed concrete jungle”, needs more green zones like the Tarumitra bio-reserve. Green areas will make the environment better and help in dipping the temperature.

Several ideas are in the pipeline, like planting medicinal plants, rainwater harvesting, building eco-friendly homes, and using solar energy. If such steps are taken seriously, then it is expected that air and water pollution will dip.

ADRI is set to collaborate with Tarumitra to work together in the coming days to fight climate change. The aim is to make the city and its surroundings healthier and greener.

These initiatives are expected to expand the forests and green zones in the areas and give a sigh of relief to the people of the city.
