Among all flowers, marigold takes the largest area, with 24,214 hectares under cultivation. Roses cover 4,502 hectares, chrysanthemums 1,709 hectares, gladiolus 1,058 hectares, and tuberose 263 hectares. Other varieties are grown on 11,227 hectares.
The state has a total of 27.71 lakh hectares under horticulture, out of which 42,978 hectares are used for growing flowers. The per-hectare productivity is 15.01 metric tonnes, which is considered very good in this sector.
In 2024–25, flower production in Madhya Pradesh reached 5.12 lakh metric tonnes – the highest ever. Officials say that with this pace, the state could soon lead the country in flower production.
The total area under flower farming in 2021-22 was just 37,647 hectares, and in a couple of years it expanded up to 5,000 hectares, with production rising by 86,294 metric tonnes. The bumper growth of flowers has now become an important asset in the state’s economy.
