New Delhi: Mango production in India has reached 228.37 lakh metric tonnes (LMT) for the year 2024-25. The data was shared by Minister of State for Agriculture, Ramnath Thakur in a written reply in the Lok Sabha on July 22 in the ongoing Monsoon Session. The mango production was 223.98 LMT in 2023-24. This achievement is possible due to better harvests of mangoes in some South Indian states.

The government has implemented the Market Intervention Scheme (MIS) under the PM-AASHA programme. This initiative protects farmers during the time of excessive supply. As per the scheme, the government buys mangoes when their prices drop during the peak season.

Since the 2024-25 season, a new feature Price Differential Payment (PDP), has been added to MIS to help farmers to know the difference between the fixed price and their actual selling price, offering states flexibility in support methods.

The Ministry of Agriculture has started the Mission for Integrated Development of Horticulture (MIDH). It has been providing full support for the development of nurseries and making export infrastructure better.

To boost mango production in the country, ICAR and State Agricultural Universities are doing research to develop new varieties of mangoes through better farming techniques to further boost the country’s mango industry.
