Gurgaon: Gurgaon is being considered as one of the most polluted cities in the country, ranked fifth as per the CREA report in early 2025. The pollution levels of the city have not been monitored for more than 10 days due to the failure of the monitoring station at Gwalpahari, operated by the Indian Meteorological Departmetn (IMD). It has not recorded pollution levels since July 13 amid glitches in the sensor. Therefore, no live air quality data is available from any government sources in the city.

Not a single monitoring station has been working for a long time; Vikas Sadan, TERI, and Sector 51 went offline in January, March, and April. The entire city is under the grip of a blackout.

Authorities are not able to track pollution levels data to take any emergency action due to the worsening of air quality in the city. People are facing several health issues, but what is their cause—due to pollution or something else?

“Monitoring is the first step to improve air,” said Sunil Dahiya from Envirocatalysts. “Agencies must act quickly and fix the system.”

Manoj Kumar from CREA said transparency is critical, especially with the high-pollution season approaching.

Meanwhile, officials assured that stations will start their operation soon; they agreed that the delay has already raised several issues.
