New Delhi: The floriculture industry has been growing steadily in the country in 2025; its production and exports both are doing well. The government has already declared floriculture a ‘sunrise industry.' Despite being the second largest producer of flowers globally, its rank in exports is still not satisfactory. However, the country has the potential to increase its flower exports.

Currently, farmers are taking a lot of interest in floral farming due to massive income. Their main focus is on cut flowers due to their high demand. Modern techniques like greenhouse farming, hi-tech tools, setting up of poly houses, and drip irrigation facilities have encouraged farmers to venture into floral farming. Several state governments are providing subsidies to farmers, which boosted production.

India exports several flowers like roses, jasmine, orchids, gerbera, and carnations. Several countries, like the USA, the Netherlands, the UAE, the UK, and Canada, are top buyers. In 2023-24, floriculture exports touched USD 86.63 million, with rose exports alone hitting Rs 17 crore in November 2024.

The flower industry needs to address several challenges, including improving infrastructure, quality, and climate resilience. With the support of the government, the future of the floral sector looks bright, and in the coming days, India is expected to emerge as one of the major flower exporters worldwide.
