Jammu: To empower farmers, especially women in the horticulture sector, the horticulture department of Jammu organised a day-long capacity-building-cum-training programme at Pargwal. Akhnoor MLA Mohan Lal Bhagat chaired the meeting.

During the event, top brass of the department, such as the Director of Horticulture Jammu, Chief Horticulture Officer Jammu, District Level Subject Matter Specialist, and others, were present. A huge number of farmers, including women from the area, participated in the event enthusiastically.

The massive turnout by the local farmers and women showed their curiosity to know the modern techniques in horticulture so that production can be boosted and their profits. A demonstration session was also conducted for the participants, where they got the knowledge how to prepare mouth-watering pickle, jam, squash and other value-added products. Experts showed practically how to make such items and answered farmers’ queries. They urged farmers to adopt such techniques to increase their incomes and reduce post-harvest losses.

The MLA, while speaking on the occasion, emphasised the significance of the establishment of small-scale fruit processing units in the block, which would be beneficial especially for women and unemployed youth. Women and youth of Pragwal were encouraged to adopt modern techniques in horticulture and avail themselves of all the government support for developing their own businesses.
