Shimla: A mysterious disease has been spreading in apple orchards in Himachal Pradesh. It has alerted the state government. Seeing the gravity of the situation, the state Chief Minister Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu has ordered an urgent investigation into this matter. The disease is dangerous for apple crops; leaves are turning yellow and falling early. In this scenario the production is likely to sharply drop.

The CM ordered an inquiry after numerous worried apple growers met with Sukhu. They informed him about the disease and their monetary loss. Apple yield plays a key role in Himachal Pradesh's economy, worth around Rs 4,500 crore, and the season gets underway in late June or early July.

Taking the matter with utmost care, the Chief Minister urged the Vice Chancellor of Y.S. Parmar University of Horticulture and Forestry, Nauni, to send expert teams to know the exact reason behind this disease. These teams are likely to study the disease; after that, they will guide farmers on how to prevent crops from this mysterious disease.

CM Sukhu said action needs to be taken in a hurry to protect the livelihoods of apple growers. He asked the university to submit a detailed report to the state government within a week so that appropriate actions can be taken.
