Madikeri: The Horticulture Department's decision to build a glass bridge at a cost of Rs 15 crore at Raja Seat in Madikeri sparked a big controversy, as locals and political leaders are furious over this decision. Local stakeholders claimed that this decision was taken in a hurry without any discussion.

The discussion regarding this matter took place a fortnight ago at a meeting in Lalbagh, Bengaluru, not in Madikeri itself. This issue has raised concern among local political leaders. The decision is jointly opposed by former minister MC Nanaiah, the Kodagu Ekikarana Ranga, several organisations, and the BJP leaders. They think that the natural beauty of Raja Seat may be damaged due to construction of this structure.

Kodagu Deputy Commissioner Venkat Raja spoke against the project, saying he is not in favour of building a glass bridge at the site. Besides this, Mahesh Jaini, vice-president of the Madikeri City Municipal Council, stated that the civic body will not grant permission for the project.

Local people believe that it is better to use such funds for some other work instead of a glass bridge. Several essential works are pending in the region. It seems the future of the project looks uncertain.
