Shimla: Himachal Pradesh Revenue, Horticulture, and Tribal Development Minister Jagat Singh Negi held a meeting on Thursday with different farmer groups such as Seb Utpadak Sangh, Sanyukt Kisan Manch, and Kisan Sabha. The minister said that their land-related issues will be addressed soon.

The meeting took place after the Himachal Pradesh High Court ordered the state forest department to take action against those apple orchards that were found to be on encroached forest land. The Supreme Court intervened in the matter and issued a stay order on June 28.

During the event the farmer organizations and horticulturists raised many issues faced by them all over the state. They said that village lands recorded in individuals' names should not be considered as forest land. In the past judgement, the apex court directed proper land demarcation before any eviction.

Minister Negi assured that the government will protect the farmers' interests and is ready to take decisions in their favour. He said the additional chief secretary (forest and revenue) is likely to hold a meeting soon with the farmer groups to discuss all matters.

MLA Harish Janartha, ex-MLA Rakesh Singha, officials, and farmer leaders were also present during the meeting.
