
Kannur: Madayipar plateau in Kerala’s Kannur district is known for its scenic appeal. During the ongoing monsoon session, it looks like the beautiful face of a newlywed bride. The heavy showers of Karkadakam, a Malayalam month, have helped in the bloom of exotic flowers like Utricularia, Eriocaulon, and Rhamphicarpa, covering the plateau in three shades like blue, violet, and white.
This laterite hilltop is known for its rich biodiversity; here 300 plant species can be witnessed. Every year, a huge number of tourists reach Madayipara and spend time with nature and do research on some exclusive plants. Children came here during the Onam season from nearby areas to collect traditional flowers. It is a hill station for migratory birds, as they stop here for the time being. It is a heaven for nature lovers.

Experts say the area needs extra protection to avoid damage from climate change. Conserving such natural beauty is more essential at the moment due to environmental issues.
The Kerala government wants to make it a tourist hub. But the state government will have to develop some infrastructure for attracting visitors. Madayipara’s natural beauty and the government’s tourism plans are expected to promote tourism in the state.
