Odisha’s dragon fruit gets place in Dubai’s superstores

Cuttack: Odisha’s dragon hit Dubai’s superstore shelves. The state has successfully exported this fruit to Gulf nations for the second consecutive year, showing the state’s horticultural progress. In a historic cultivation, 330 kg of dragon fruit from Balangir district, grown in Patnagarh, was sent to Dubai. The price of the fruit was Rs 300 per kg, which has increased 20% compared to last year’s price of Rs 250 per kg. This increase shows the high quality of fruit and its demand in overseas markets.
 

Odisha’s agriculture and horticulture exports have been making steady progress. The Department of Agriculture & Farmers’ Empowerment (DA&FE), Government of Odisha, is helping Farmer Producer Organisations (FPOs) by offering help in farming methods, market access, and training. This initiative helps farmers to come together and sell their produce in global markets.

The dragon fruit export from Balangir is a matter of pride for the horticulture department of Odisha. It highlights the state’s rapid progress in exporting fruits and reveals the benefits of modern techniques in horticulture farming.

 

During the export event, top brass of the department, like Subrat Kumar Panda (Director, Horticulture), Praful Kumar Bhanja (Joint Director, Horticulture), and Rahul Ranjan (Manager, AAICLAS), along with others, were present. This success has inspired farmers to cultivate more and more high-value crops and boost their incomes.
