The apex court further ordered that numerous trees need to be planted to replace those uprooted. State counsel informed the bench that all the activities had already been stopped, and a meeting took place to prepare some other plan. The Chief Justice commented that if the state government presented a suitable plan, then the court would give full compliments.
Earlier, the Chief Justice had made it clear that the Chief Secretary and other top officials who are responsible for the forest’s demolition may have to go behind the bar. The judges further added that they support the development work but insisted it needs to be sustainable. They said it is better to protect the environment and wildlife in the developmental projects. The next hearing is likely to take place within six weeks.
