New Delhi: India’s floriculture industry has been expanding, and flower exports reached 19,677 metric tonnes in 2023–24, valued at US$86.63 million (Rs 717.83 crores). The United States, United Kingdom, and Germany are significant purchasers of Indian flowers. Roses, lilies, carnations, and chrysanthemums are the most exported flowers from the country. The demand for such flowers is high in global markets. Indian flowers are known for their qualities like freshness, variety, and vibrant colours.

Karnataka, Andhra Pradesh, and Tamil Nadu are the leading flower-producing states, where farmers and exporters are tapping into the expanding market. Some of the leading exporters, such as Speciality Flowers, Bee Bee Exports, and Global Dried Flowers, are strengthening India’s global presence in floriculture.

India remained in second place after China in flower production in 2023–24, reaching 947,000 metric tonnes of cut flowers and 2,284,000 metric tonnes of loose flowers. Besides roses and lilies, marigolds, sunflowers, lotuses, and other flowers are commonly grown across the country.

As global demand for flowers rises, experts say the sector is becoming a major economic driver. India’s flower exporters are well placed due to improvements in quality, product innovation, and market reach. They can further expand their exports and cement their place in the global floral market.
