This year’s Pookkalam measured an impressive 60 feet in diameter. More than 1,500 kilograms of fresh flowers, such as roses, marigolds, and chrysanthemums, were arranged in a beautiful manner, making the sight absolutely phenomenal. The floral design was set up at the Thekke Gopura Nada of the Vadakkumnathan temple. It was created by the Sayahna Souhruda Kootayma (Evening Friendship Forum), a group that has been making the Pookkalam every Atham for the last 17 years.
Work got underway since morning. Forum members, both young and old, started placing the petals at their exact places carefully. The massive design became ready within a few hours. Visitors praised the placement of petals and the colours; several of them took selfies, and quickly social media flooded with pictures of the “giant Pookkalam".
The bright, fresh and fragrant flowers once again turned out to be the most eye-catching event, making Thrissur once again the cultural heart of Kerala’s Onam celebrations.
