The officer said each village has been facing different kinds of challenges; to address them, the administration is organising ‘Polam Pilustondi’ every Tuesday and Wednesday. Through this initiative officials will interact directly with farmers and offer timely solutions.
He further added the government has been providing seeds, fertilisers, CCRC cards, and crop loans to farmers. Fertilisers are being provided through a biometric-based online system, and there is no dearth of fertilisers in the district, he said.
Dr Lakshmisha urged farmers to diversify crops and include horticulture along with paddy. Farmers can set up fruit and flower gardens under the Employment Guarantee Scheme. This initiative will help farmers to increase their productivity two or three times.
The district has been planning to grow horticulture crops in 4,000 acres this year, with 3,800 acres already cultivated. During this event several officials and progressive farmers enthusiastically took part.
