Justice Dinesh Kumar Singh and expert member Dr Vijay Kulkarni heard the matter on Tuesday. It was the first hearing by the western bench after the case was transferred from the principal bench. The tribunal made it clear that all parties had got notice on time.
A representative of the Maharashtra Pollution Control Board (MPCB), advocate Manasi Joshi, submitted a reply on August 5. They defined plastic litter and solid waste near the lake after scrutiny took place on July 14. Water tests made it clear that the lake was not suitable for outdoor bathing. MPCB had asked NMC to take action on June 30 but failed to get any response.
NMC’s lawyer, Girish Kute, said he had just been appointed and needed time. The tribunal granted him four weeks to submit a detailed reply and a rejoinder to MPCB’s findings.
The Central Pollution Control Board (CPCB) has submitted its response and was asked to share it with NMC. The next hearing is to be heard on September 4, 2025.
