Bengaluru: Bengaluru’s KR Market has been the first choice for customers to purchase different varieties of flowers on the occasion of festivals, weddings, housewarmings, or daily prayers. People go there because all kinds of flowers are available in this market at affordable prices. But now the flower market is going to be shifted to another destination.

The Bruhat Bengaluru Mahanagara Palike (BBMP) has announced that the flower section will be shifted to a new location. The decision comes as the present setup has been creating major traffic and civic issues. From as early as 3 a.m., flowers are sold not only inside the ground floor of KR Market but also on the surrounding roads, including SJP Road. This causes heavy congestion and inconvenience to the public.

Officials also point out that KR Market lacks proper processing facilities for flowers brought in by farmers. Without such units, a large quantity of flowers gets spoiled, causing farmers to face losses.

To resolve these problems, the BBMP has decided to relocate the flower market to the GKVK campus near Hebbal. According to Greater Bengaluru Authority Chief Commissioner Maheshwara Rao, preparations have already been made and the new site has been finalized. The shift is likely to reduce traffic congestion, and it will provide better facilities for traders, farmers, and even customers.
