Tourists throng to see colourful blooms at Kas Plateau flower show

Satara: Thousands of visitors, thronged to see the vibrant flower season at the Kas Plateau, which has officially been declared a UNESCO World Natural Heritage Site. Deputy Conservator of Forests Amol Satpute, along with other officials and committee members, inaugurated the colourful flower season on Thursday.
 

Currently, flowers like deepakandi, chavar, pand, abhali, bhuikarvi, sonki, terda, gend, seetchi asave, and kumudini are blooming in patches. The plateau is likely to become a flourishing floral bed in the coming weeks, enticing even more tourists.

The Forest Department and the Executive Committee have made several arrangements, such as security guards, guides, e-vehicles, and bullock cart rides, so that events can be managed smoothly. One-way traffic has been introduced on weekends and holidays this year to curb congestion. The per-day tourist limit will remain 3,000, and only online booking is compulsory on peak days. Strict action will be taken against visitors who are responsible for damaging flowers or causing trouble. They will have to face a fine of Rs 750. This season, a total of 132 locals, including women volunteers, have been hired. Authorities stressed that huge crowds are expected, and protecting the rare flowers will be their top priority.
